Technical Tours

We are pleased to announce that the following tours are offered for a limited number of registered participants :

Tour of the Hydro-Québec Research Institute (IREQ) (FULL)

Date: Tuesday, August 22, 2017, from 12:30 p.m. to approx. 3:30 p.m. (Important notice : Return bus transportation will be provided from the Palais des congrès)

Capacity: 45 people (registration will allocated on a on a first come, first serve basis)

Summary:

IREQ, Hydro-Québec's research institute is a unique hub of innovation in energy-related technologies. Hydro-Québec is the only electric utility in North America to have a research centre the size of IREQ. The company invests a yearly average of $100 million in its innovation projects. The IREQ team is made up of approximately 500 scientists, technicians, engineers and specialists.

This visit will take the attendees through some of the laboratories of IREQ, including presentations of some of the key innovations, in areas such power grid simulation, substation of the future, or experimental distribution lines.

To register, you MUST provide the following information by no later than Friday, August 11 at fabrice.labeau@ieee.org

  • Full name, affiliation, title, date of birth
  • For Canadian and US citizens: driver's license number and issuing Province/State
  • For participants from countries other than Canada and the US: Passport number and issuing country

Tour of the Canadian Space Agency (FULL)

Date: Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to approx. 3:30 p.m. (Important notice : Return bus transportation will be provided from the Palais des congrès

Capacity: 20 people (registration will allocated on a on a first come, first serve basis)

Deadline for registration: August 8th, 2017

Summary:

The Canadian Space Agency was created in 1989 and is headquartered in the John H. Chapman Space Centre in Saint-Hubert, in the greater Montreal area. Its resources are directed to four key programs in Earth Observation, Space Science and Exploration, Satellite Communications and Space Awareness. The visit to the CSA headquarters will introduce the attendees to several of the ongoing projects at CSA, including those related to the well-known Canadarm programs.

To register, you MUST provide the following information by no later than Tuesday, August 8 at fabrice.labeau@ieee.org

  • Full name, affiliation, title, date of birth
  • For Canadian (citizens, permanent residents, persons residing in Canada under a valid student or work visa): will need to present at the entrance a valid government-issued photo ID (RAMQ card, PR card, Driver's license, Passport with Visa, citizenship card)
  • For other: Passport number and issuing country (will be checked the day of the visit)
